You’d have to make out time to clean, declutter and reorganize. It’s time consuming and stressful but is it worth it? Absolutely!

The end product of organizing your closet will be different for everyone due to difference in style and size of your closet space.

In this article, I’ll be giving you helpful tips on how to organize your closet no matter the space so, stay tuned.

Factors to consider before organizing Your Closet

If you just moved into a new place or your current closet space is a mess and you’re thinking of reorganizing, there are certain factors you should take into consideration before you start.

Time Factor

This entire operation is time consuming and, in some cases, may take days depending on the size of your closet. If you’re dealing with walk-in closets, this would definitely take more time compared to a simple wardrobe or makeshift rack.

Ensure you have enough free time to finish what you’re about to start because if you end up leaving it halfway, you’d probably have to start all over again when you’re ready to continue.

Organization Style

Another factor to consider is the organization style you’re going for. If it’s just a regular tidy space, you’re going for or you want a stylishly organized closet.

Now let’s get into the discourse proper.

How To Organize Your Closet

Step 1: Clean

The first step is to clean out your space. Empty your wardrobe, clean your shoes and wipe down your rails and hangers to get rid of dust. Also clean the compartments for folded clothes too then move on to the next step.

Step 2: Declutter

To properly organize your space, designate a few hours clearing out clothes and shoes that don’t fit, worn out clothes or clothes you just don’t wear anymore. Give out that Halloween costume you wore last year, you won’t be needing it.

Getting rid of fashion items, you barely use would make your space less stuffy and also create space for new ones. Also, it’ll help you create a space you’d enjoy rifling through.

Step 3: Organize

Now this is where the main work begins. At this stage, you have to sort your clothes out. Separate the ones going on the hangers from the one’s to be folded.

Fold neatly and place in their proposed compartments. Arranging by cloth type is a good advice in this case, that means fold and place all jeans in one compartment same with other clothing pieces. You can get labeled baskets to make this easier.

Moving on to the clothes going on the hanger, you can decide to arrange them by length or color. Arranging by length entails placing the shorter ones before the longer ones to create an organized outlook.

While arranging by color entails placing all outfits with same color or color family together.

Items like undergarments or socks are best stored in drawers, away from direct view. Boxes should go in the uppermost compartment of your closet.

Having done this, arrange your shoes in the compartment below your clothes or in their appropriated rack if you have one and voila! your closet is ready!

Step 4: Create a Seasonal Rotation

You should consider implementing a seasonal rotation to avoid overcrowding. Store off-season clothing in bins or vacuum-sealed bags to free up space for the current season’s wardrobe. This helps your maintain order and assess your clothing inventory regularly.

Step 5: Implement a Regular Maintenance Routine

All your hard work would be put to waste in no time if you don’t have a regular maintenance routine. Schedule periodic closet cleanouts to assess the state of your wardrobe. Doing this would help ensure that your closet remains clutter-free for a long time.

Conclusion

I hope these tips were helpful. Would you be reorganizing your closet space soon? Let me know in the comments.
