If you’re like me that finds bra fittings at the lingerie store embarrassing then don’t stop reading this post, I’ve got some exciting news for you!
Have you ever worn an ill-fitting bra and regretted it for the rest of the day? The discomfort that comes with it is second to none, it can even water down your outfit not to talk about the sore and aches you’ll get when they come off. This is the price you pay when you don’t know your bra size.
Your bra size should not be a guessing game. Discomfort aside, the cons of ill-fitting bras are too substantial to be ignored. Proper fitting bras reduces bulges and deep creases around the breast, reduces the risk of premature saggy breasts and makes you confident in your outfit.

I know most times it’s not always our fault, there are a lot of factors that can lead to getting the wrong bra size. Lingerie brands being the number one reason, a size 38 C-cup bra in one lingerie brand might be a different cup size in another brand.
Nevertheless, you should have a basic idea your bra size and better still, how to check it yourself. So, before you go bra shopping again, apply what you’ll learn here for easy and stress-free shopping. (you’re welcome)
Why You should know how to measure Bra Size
One major advantage of knowing how to measure bra size yourself is that you get to make adjustments yourself when you go through body changes like weight gain or weight loss. This way, you don’t run to the lingerie store each time your body changes.
Also, for women like myself, it saves you the awkwardness of having to go in for bust measurement.
What do I need to check my Bra Size at home?
All you need is a tape, your favorite non-padded bra, and a mirror.
How to measure Bra Size
I’ll be giving you a step-by-step guide on how to measure bra size from the comfort of your home. Without further ado, let’s get to it.
Get Your Band Size
To get your band size, wear a non-padded bra, then use your measuring tape to measure directly under your bust, where your bra band is, make sure the tape goes round. The tape must be level and snug, to ensure this, take a deep breath in then out.
If you don’t get a whole number, round up to the nearest whole number. If it’s an odd number, add five, if it’s an even number, add four. This means that if you got 34 inches, your bra size is 38, if you got 37 inches your bra size is 42.
Measure Your Bust
To get this, wrap the tape a bit loosely around the fullest part of your breast which is usually the nipple level. if you didn’t get a whole number, round up your result to a whole number.
Get Your Cup Size
Subtract Your band size from your bust measurement and refer to the bra cup size outline below.
0=AA
1=A
2=B
3=C
4=D
5=DD
6=F
7=FF
8=G
9=GG
10=H
11=HH
12=J
13=JJ
14=K
If your bust is 37 inches and your band is 34 inches, it’ll be 37-34 = 3 inches. Your bra size is 34C. Your bra size is your band size with your cup size.
How to tell You’re wearing the wrong Bra Size
There are a few signs you should watch out for; they serve as pointers to knowing if you’re wearing the correct bra size.
Slipping Straps
If you’re experiencing slipping straps, then you’re definitely not wearing the right bra size for you.
Cup Spillage
If your breasts are excessively popping out of your bra then honey, that’s not your correct bra size.
Underwire Poking
If the underwire of your bra keeps poking the sides of your breast, it means you’re wearing the wrong bra size.
Additionally, any bra that pulls up when you lift your hands, has wrinkling in the cups or has a band that rides up is not the right bra size for you.
Conclusion
As I said earlier, bra size may vary according to lingerie brands but with this measurement skill you just learnt, you’re closest to making no mistakes when next you go bra shopping.
