10 Must-Have DIY Hair Accessories for Summer

1.Scrunchies

What You Need: Fabric (cotton, velvet, or satin), elastic, needle and thread or sewing machine, scissors.

    How to Make:

    • Cut a strip of fabric about 4 inches wide and 18-20 inches long.
    • Fold the fabric lengthwise, right sides together, and sew along the edge to create a tube.
    • Turn the tube right-side out.
    • Thread a piece of elastic (about 8-10 inches long) through the tube, using a safety pin to help guide it.
    • Sew the ends of the elastic together.
    • Tuck in the raw edges of the fabric tube and sew the ends together to close the scrunchie.

    2.Beaded Hairpins

What You Need: Plain bobby pins, small beads, thin wire, wire cutters.

    How to Make:

    • Cut a small piece of wire (about 6 inches).
    • Thread beads onto the wire.
    • Wrap the beaded wire around the top part of the bobby pin, securing the beads in place.
    • Tuck in the wire ends so they don’t poke out.

    3.Fabric Bow

What You Need: Fabric, needle and thread or fabric glue, scissors.

      How to Make:

      • Cut two rectangles of fabric, one large (about 8×4 inches) and one small (about 1×3 inches).
      • Fold the large rectangle in half lengthwise, sew along the edge, and turn it right-side out.
      • Fold the fabric into a bow shape and pinch the middle.
      • Use the small rectangle to wrap around the center of the bow and sew or glue it in place.

      4.Ribbon Hair Ties

What You Need: Elastic hair ties, ribbons, scissors.

        How to Make:

        • Cut a piece of ribbon about 12-16 inches long.
        • Tie the ribbon around the elastic hair tie in a knot, leaving equal lengths on both sides.
        • Trim the ribbon ends at an angle for a neat finish.

        5.Floral Headband

What You Need: Plain headband, artificial flowers, hot glue gun.

        How to Make:

Choose your artificial flowers and trim the stems if necessary.
Use the hot glue gun to attach the flowers to the headband, spacing them out as desired.
Let the glue dry completely before wearing.

        6.Knotted Headwrap

What You Need: Stretchy fabric, scissors.

          How to Make:

          • Cut a strip of fabric about 6 inches wide and 20-24 inches long.
          • Fold the fabric in half lengthwise and twist it in the middle to form a knot.
          • Wrap the headwrap around your head, tucking in the ends at the back.

          7. Pearl Hair Clips

What You Need: Plain hair clips, flat-back pearls, hot glue gun.

            How to Make:

            • Place a small dot of glue on the hair clip where you want to add a pearl.
            • Press the flat-back pearl onto the glue and hold it in place for a few seconds.
            • Repeat until the clip is covered with pearls.

            8.Turban-Style Headband

What You Need: Fabric (stretchy is best), needle and thread or sewing machine, scissors.

              How to Make:

              • Cut two strips of fabric, each about 5 inches wide and 20 inches long.
              • Twist the two strips together in the middle.
              • Sew the ends of the twisted fabric together to form a loop.
              • Adjust the twist so it sits nicely at the front of your head when you wear it.

              9. Pom-Pom Hair Ties

What You Need: Yarn, scissors, elastic hair ties.

                How to Make:

                • Wrap yarn around your fingers about 30-50 times, depending on the desired size.
                • Carefully slide the yarn off your fingers and tie a piece of yarn tightly around the center.
                • Cut the loops on both sides to create the pom-pom, and trim it to shape.
                • Tie the pom-pom to the elastic hair tie.

                10. Braided Hair Wraps

What You Need: Embroidery floss in various colors, beads (optional), scissors.

                  How to Make:

                  • Cut several pieces of embroidery floss, each about 24 inches long.
                  • Tie the floss around a small section of hair near the scalp, leaving some length to braid.
                  • Braid the floss with the hair, adding beads if desired, and tie off the end with a knot.
